CAMRA Victoria Events Update – June and July

Category : News

An Update from Your President and Upcoming CAMRA Victoria Events Hello CAMRA Victoria Members and Craft Beer Enthusiasts,
As we approach the halfway point of 2019, I wanted to take the time to thank you for continuing to support The Campaign for Real Ale Society. I didn’t get a chance earlier this year to thank you for selecting me to represent our region as your President.
A little about me, I came to CAMRA as a Craft Beer Supporter, believing in being apart of our vibrant local community. I enjoy participating at local events as well as partaking in anything food or drink related. When I joined, I wanted to get more involved, so I joined the executive as communications director. Since, then I have been your Membership Director (and still am) as well as VIce-President.
Through this journey, I have learned so much about the industry, the many brewing styles and about appreciating all hard work that goes into making theses products. I have learned what I like to drink, what pairs well with what beers and what it takes to make a fabulous product. I have also learned what is missing from beer culture, such as the need for more Education and Advocacy regarding consumer rights, proper storage and serving.
For 2019, we have put together a great team who are keen to work hard on presenting great events that are both fun and educational. As well, we have a couple of projects we are working on.
Earlier this year, CAMRA Victoria obtained the research and historical items as part of the Greg Evans estate. We are currently working on inventorying these items with the hopes of digitizing the files and making them available to the public. We are also working on displaying some of the historical items in the community.
In addition to this, we are gearing for another Beer on the Beach Protest in August. CAMRA BC gained some ground on this last year with Vancouver doing a pilot project happening this year at English Bay and Kitsilano Beach Concession stands. However, there is still more work to be done. So stay turned on joining us. We are tentatively scheduling this years protest the weekend of August 17-18.
Your CAMRA executive is here for you, please let me know if you have an suggestions, ideas or questions. We would be happy to have your input.
Talk to you soon, Cheers Cayla Stiles-Clark President and Membership Director CAMRA Victoria

CAMRA Victoria Summer BBQ At Pedersen’s Event Rentals 206 Mary St, Victoria, BC Sunday, July 14 at 4 pm
This year’s BBQ will be held at the Pedersen’s Event Rental building on 206 Mary Street. The location overlooks the beautiful Inner Harbour and is a stone’s throw away from Spinnakers.
We ask that all members attending BYOB, and maybe a bomber or two to share as we would like to do a bottle share.
Bring your own protein to BBQ and either a salad, side or dessert to share. The Executive will be providing the Corn (and maybe another treat).
New this year, we would like to have a couple special contest to shake things up. * First up, a “Cooking With Beer” competition. Prepare your best dish using beer as a signature ingredient. * Second, a Home Brew Competition. Bring a bottle or two of your own home brewed beers to be judged by your peers.
The best of both will be awarded as special prize.
Your Exec may also have a surprise or two but you will have to come to find out what it is. Pedersen’s is on several bus routes, so easy to get to and easy to get home from.
Stay tuned for more details as they come.
