GCBF Volunteer Update/Other News
Category : News
Hey CAMRA Members and Craft Beer Enthusiasts,
GCBF is coming up in just under two months from now. As you know, volunteers are the backbone of the festival, as without them the organizers can’t ensure a smooth weekend for everyone that attends. On that note, this is a friendly reminder that volunteer positions are still available.
Currently the GCBF site shows spots for ‘beer & ice crew,’ with a Thursday shift involving moving beer kegs to the reefer truck, and Friday for moving the beer and ice from the truck to the booths. Lastly, they also have positions open for both ‘booth stewards’ and ‘booth monitors’ for Saturday, the stewards assist in taking tokens and pouring beer, while the monitors oversee the booths to ensure the taking of tokens and proper pouring of beer is occurring.
While all of the positions are important to the GCBF, the booth stewards and monitors are the most paramount as they require the most people to operate. Those positions do require the volunteer to have either ‘Serving it Right (SIR),’ or a ‘Special Event Server (SES),’ certificate, which is good for 5 years and can be transferred to any event or position that requires the serving of alcohol, (ie/ Victoria Beer Week for example.) The cost for Serving it Right is $35, while the Special Event Server is $20.
Click here (www.servingitright.com/) to take the Serving it Right course, or here (www.specialeventserver.com/) for the Special Event Server one.
Also, CAMRA Victoria is in need of volunteers to help us run our booth at the festival. If you’ve attended the festival the last two years, then you’ve seen how crazy busy it gets with our games, contests, and of course, the pretzel necklaces!
Currently we’re looking for 3 members to help out Friday, and 2 for the Saturday portion. Members who volunteer for the CAMRA booth get the same perks as those who volunteer for the actual festival, which include a t-shirt, entrance to the festival on the day they’re not working, and an invite to the wrap-up party Saturday evening.
If this sounds like you, click here (firstname.lastname@example.org) , or email our VP/Membership Director Cayla at email@example.com and she’ll get you all set up.
Also, tickets are still available for both days of the festival. Click here (www.gcbf.com/tickets) to purchase them online, or visit the Ticket Rocket office at 101-804 Broughton Street Mon-Fri from 10am-5pm to purchase them in person.
Lastly, tomorrow night our friends at West Coast Brewery Tours are having a tap takeover at Smith’s Pub, starting at 5pm. To help celebrate 4 years in operation, they’ve picked a selection of beers from some of their favorite breweries from across Greater Victoria.
Hope to See You All There.
